Russian medieval army

Postby lerostratos » Sat Feb 09, 2013 1:58 pm

Hello,
Just to say that I began to work on the next list : Russian medieval from the Kulikovo battle (and freedom from Mongols) to the fall of Novgorod (moscow domination), so from 1380 to 1478. There were many little "kingdoms" at this times around big cities (Novgorod, Moscow, Tver, Riazan, etc).
I read cambridge russian history, ospreys, some web translated from Russia, but I am not a specialist of medieval times.
Evidences show the important role of militia, crossbowmen and a shift to mongol war technics (heavy bow cavalry).
Maybe the list could be limited to some cities of the east or north...
And about allies, I have a few things. Sometines with mongol against other russians (but maybe it was more an addition to mongol list with russians ally than russian with mongol allies ?). And what about western knights ?
If anyone is interested by creating this list, please contact me. Two brains is more balanced than one !
Best regards,
Lero

Yes it will be interesting because Russians adopted a part of mongol warfare (as we can see with sword switched to saber).
This will give me some additional grounds.
Thanks for the information.
